What Causes a Computer to Slow Down?
There are lots of things that can slow a computer down over time. Some things designed to speed your computer up actually slow it down after a while. Isn’t technology fun?
Here’s a list of some things that can impact the performance of your computer:
- Malware, Spyware, Adware or other unwanted programs
- Large browser cache(s)
- Computer temp file cache
- Programs that are running in the background even when not in use
- Failing hardware (especially hard drive)
- Registry errors
- Outdated Software
- Operating System Update(s) pending
- Operating System Errors/Corruption
These items and more can cause levels of frustration that will have you pulling out your hair and cursing inanimate objects. We’ve all been there and understand how annoying a slow computer can be when you’re trying to get something done.
A computer tune-up by TechsRUs will restore your blood pressure to normal and keep your hair in place.

A recent client called us because their iMac was running abnormally slow. After less than an hour we had it running at optimal performance.
What did we do? It really wasn’t that complex.
- There was a program that popped up almost as soon as we logged in. We suspected adware. We were correct
- We removed the adware program
- Performed a disk repair using the default disk utility program on all Apple Mac computers
- We checked the activity monitor to ensure there wasn’t something else using all the computer’s resource
- We ran CCleaner to clear temp files and caches
The iMac now runs as it should. This took us less than an hour and the client was ecstatic that their expensive iMac was running the right way again.
Most of the area’s computer repair and support companies will not work on Mac computers. We are more than happy to help out our Mac clients.
